For the Second Time, MID has Earned the Transparency Certificate of Excellence Award
The Madera Irrigation District (District or MID) has been awarded a District Transparency Certificate of Excellence by the Special District Leadership Foundation (SDLF) for the second time. This award recognizes MID’s outstanding efforts to promote transparency and good governance. The District first received the Transparency Certificate in 2015 and has now been honored again in 2018. SDLF is an independent, non-profit organization formed to promote good governance and best practices among California’s special districts through certification, accreditation, and other recognition programs.
“MID is proud to receive this award for the second time” said Thomas Greci, General Manager. “It demonstrates the District’s commitment to transparency and, what we believe is, good governance for the organization we serve.”
In order to receive the award, a special district must demonstrate the completion of eight essential governance transparency requirements including conducting ethics training for all board members, properly conducting open and public meetings, and filing financial transactions and compensation reports to the State Controller in a timely manner along with fulfilling fifteen website requirements that allow the public access to information.
The District must also outreach to its constituents, engaging the public in its governance. The District does this through newsletters, a Facebook account, a Twitter account, annual growers meetings, presentations at various service clubs, and special community engagement projects, such as the Canal Safety Poster Contest held last year.
