Madera Irrigation District Plans for 2021 Water Season
Although 2021 has been an exceptionally dry year with little rainfall and below average snowpack, Madera Irrigation District (MID or District) is developing approaches to ensure delivery of surface water supplies to landowners within the District this summer. Thus far, MID has received a 20% Friant Class 1 allocation from the United States Bureau of Reclamation, equating to just 17,000 acre-feet. However, through careful planning and a portfolio of water supplies, including MID’s Pre-1914 and Hensley Lake (Hidden Unit) supplies, MID expects to be able to run during a portion of the peak demand period.
It is currently anticipated that details related to water pricing, timing, and availability will be made by the MID Board of Directors in May. MID is currently accepting Crop Water Applications and, as a reminder, water user information including previous water use and billing information is available on the new software platform, Water UI.
Please stay tuned for further announcements on this year’s water season. As always, information regarding the MID water season and other topics concerning MID can be found via many medias including the MID website, Facebook, and Twitter. Information is also available by signing up for MID’s email distribution list or by contacting the office directly.
