Madera Irrigation District Announces 2020 Water Season
Madera Irrigation District’s Board of Directors has determined that Madera Irrigation District (MID or District) grower deliveries for the 2020 water season will begin on approximately May 18, 2020. Even after experiencing one of the driest February months on record and with a current Friant Class 1 allocation of 55%, MID’s outlook for the 2020 water season remains positive and the District anticipates being able to make deliveries through peak irrigation months.
The MID Board of Directors has set the initial rate of $110.00 per acre foot for Original District users. Additionally, the District has been diligent and has been able to acquire a supplemental water supply for its Subordinate users. The rate for Subordinate landowners is currently set at $375.00 per acre foot. As always, MID encourages all District landowners to utilize this precious resource while available.
“The MID Board is happy to announce to our growers and the community that MID will have a viable 2020 water season. Furthermore, the Board is even more pleased that through continued fiscal responsibility, even in this year type, the District is able to maintain a reasonable water rate for its Original District landowners while also making supplies available to its Subordinate users” stated Jim Erickson, MID Board President.
In response to concerns over COVID-19, there will be some changes to MID’s water season operations. MID’s office is currently closed to the public, however the District is accepting Crop Water Applications via email, fax, and mail. Additionally, MID asks that you maintain social distancing protocols with MID employees for the health and safety of you, MID’s employees, and the public in general. Please feel free to call the MID office at 559-673-3514 should you have any questions.
